The
Red Tile Inn
Directions: From Junction 23
on the M5 follow the A39 towards Glastonbury. Cossington can
be found on the left after about 2 miles.
The “Tile” as is affectionately known by the locals
is an extensive inn where guests can relax and savour some
great food, drink and company.
The Red Tile Inn in Cossington
dates back to the early 18th century when it was known
as the Cossington Inn. Originally a thatched building
it was tiled during the 19th century at the height of
the Bridgwater tile industry boom, and was apparently
re –named the "Red Tile" by the American
pilots in World War 2 who used it’s distinctive
roof as a sighting point when bringing their Typhoon
fighters in off the Bristol Channel to Westonzoyland
airfield.
